Dan Erwin joined the Federal Defender’s Office in September 2018. A member of the bar since 2011, Dan began his career at Pattis & Smith, LCC in New Haven handling state and federal criminal cases in trial and appellate courts. Subsequent to that, he spent a year at Pieszak-Miller & Brodeur, LLC where he litigated serious felonies, appeals, and post-conviction matters on behalf of indigent defendants. In private practice, Dan argued multiple appeals before the Connecticut Supreme Court, Connecticut Appellate Court, and the Second Circuit as well as serving as both co- and lead counsel in multiple trials, suppression hearings, and sentencings. In 2017, Dan received the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Association (CCDLA) Merit award for his successes before the Connecticut Supreme Court and his efforts representing CCDLA as amicus curiea. He was selected as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” from 2015 to 2019. Dan is a member of CCDLA and became a member of the Executive Board in 2019. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his JD, cum laude, from Quinnipiac University School of Law.
