Moira is an Assistant Federal Defender in the Hartford office. She has been practicing law since 1997, defending people charged with criminal offenses in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. She began her career handling trial and appellate work at the Law Office of F. Mac Buckley. For nearly four years she was an Assistant Public Defender in the Legal Services Unit of the Connecticut Public Defender's Office, specializing in appellate defense for clients convicted of serious felony offenses. Moira is a former partner at Shipman and Goodwin, LLP, where she was part of their Government Investigations and White Collar Practice Group, and she was the sole member in the Law Office of Moira Buckley. At both firms she represented clients charged with offenses ranging from misdemeanors to capital felony murder. Moira has served as a Moot Court instructor at UCONN School of Law and as a visiting professor in the Appellate Defense Clinic at Quinnipiac University School of Law. Moira has been named in Super Lawyers Magazine as a New England Super Lawyer in White Collar Criminal Defense and Criminal Defense. She has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, is a past-president of the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and the current Chair of the Connecticut Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section. She was appointed by the judges of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut to serve on the Criminal Justice Act Standing Committee. Moira earned her J.D. from Quinnipiac University School of Law and her BA degree from St. Anselm College
