Nashalis is the Administrative Assistant for the Federal Public Defender Office, District of Connecticut. Nashalis is a native Spanish-speaker. Before joining the District of Connecticut, Nashalis worked at the Federal Defeder’s Office in the Districts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island for about two years and a half. During her time there, Nashalis started her federal career as a Legal Assistant, having a main focus on Appellate Matters. Prior to working with the Federal Defenders, Nashalis worked at the Superior Courts for New London County as a Temporary Assistant Clerk. During her time there, Nashalis clerked for the Honorable John L. Carbonneau, Jr., Senior Superior Court Judge for the Windham County Juvenile Court and the Honorable John M. Newson, Administrative Judge for the New London Judicial District.
Nashalis graduated from Lasell University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Legal Studies with a double minor in Political Science and Psychology. During her Senior year, Nashalis interned at the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Criminal Division under Maura Healey’s leadership. While in undergrad, Nashalis helped organize table talks with the former President of Lasell University, Michael Alexander, about the disparities around the way professors and the campus community treated minorities vs. white students. Nashalis organized talks with the Justice Studies Department about effective ways to communicate with minorities, without having differential treatment. Nashalis participated in the Mock Trial program and competed with different schools.
Nashalis is committed to restoring justice for indigent clients and being part of a team that advocates for their rights and freedom.
